Industrial Water Treatment

 

Objectives:

  • The course aims at introducing candidates to treatment techniques of water from various sources. Treatment techniques include water to be used in industrial processing, power and heating boilers, potable water. The international specifications of water for various uses are discussed.

Contents:

  • 1. Introduction: Surface and underground fresh water, Principles of water treatment, Water treatment processes and equipment.
  • 2. Water Clarification: Types of clarifiers and their applications, separation of impurities by floatation, separation of coarse suspended matters, sedimentation, filtration and coagulation.
  • 3. Disinfection of Water: Colorization, Ozonization.
  • 4. Water demineralization: ion exchange resins, electrodialytic, magnetic methods, etc.
  • 5. Water Quality Control: PH, TDS, Elements content (Cl, Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn and Si), Oxygen, and Residual Chlorine.
  • 6. ASTM Specifications of Industrial Water for Various uses: Boiler feed water
