Welding Metallurgy and Filler Metal Selection

Objectives:

  • This Course introduces participants to the metallurgy of welding for various types of industrial alloys. It helps in understanding the micro-structural changes, hence properties changes, during welding. It gives also the principals of preheat and PWHT calculation requirements and electrode selection criteria.

Contents:

  • 1. Metallurgy of carbon and low alloy steels
  • 2. Microstructure changes during welding of carbon and low alloy steel
  • 3. Pr-weld heat treatment calculations: effect of: carbon equivalent (Alloying elements), heat input, thickness
  • 4. PWHT or stress relief heat treatment
  • 5. Welding of various types of stainless steels
  • 6. Welding of non ferrous alloys
  • 7. Principal of filler metals selection of various welding techniques
  • 8. Case studies.

Who Should Attend:

  • The course is interesting to all the staff involved in design, operation, maintenance, inspection, reliability and safety of various welded industrial systems including:
  • • Boilers, pressure vessels and piping systems
  • • Steel Structures.
  • • Petroleum, petrochemical and chemical industry systems.
